The Morning Routine That Gave Me My Energy Back: 10 Minutes of Movement
How I reclaimed focus through movement and breath
For years, I hit snooze.
I'd drag myself out of bed, straight to coffee, then straight into emails. By 10 a.m., I was already tired.
I blamed my schedule. My workload. My age.
The Story
The truth was simpler: my body was still asleep.
In sales, we talk about 'warming up' a client. But we forget to warm up ourselves. We expect our minds to perform without waking up our bodies first.
One morning, I decided to try something different. Before coffee. Before phone. Before thinking.
I walked outside for 10 minutes. No music. No podcast. Just movement and breath.
That single walk changed my entire day. I felt awake. Clear. Present.
The Shift
Energy isn't something you find. It's something you create.
Movement in the morning doesn't have to be a workout. It just needs to be intentional. Your body needs a signal that the day has begun.
When you move first, everything else flows better. Your thoughts sharpen. Your patience expands. Your decisions improve.
I started viewing my morning movement as non-negotiable — not because I love exercise, but because I love the clarity it gives me.
The Practice
Here's the routine that worked for me:
Wake up. Stand up. Move.
5 minutes of walking (outside if possible)
3 minutes of stretching (nothing complicated — neck rolls, arm circles, forward fold)
2 minutes of deep breathing (inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6)
That's it. 10 minutes total.
Do this before you check your phone. Before coffee. Before anything else.
Your body will wake up. Your energy will follow.
You don't need more hours of sleep. You need to wake up your whole system.
Start with movement. The rest takes care of itself.
Energy is built, not borrowed.
